Andy Petterson Logo - behind the scenes

Hello everybody.

Continuing our current theme of behind the scenes, we wanted to share a sampling of the sketches and doodles that went on while we were designing the logo for television production graduate Andy Petterson.

British Karate Federation - In Progress

Hello all.
Just wanted to share a little glimpse into one of our on going projects.
This is an approximately chronological sample of the sketches that we have produced while designing a secondary logo for the British Karate Federation.

Our current design is based on a Hanko stamp, a type of printing stamp used in East Asia in lieu of a signature. Our intention is to give the BKF its own signature to be used across various applications.
I'll keep the copy short and let the images speak for themselves:

Thinking Out Of The Box

It seems it's about time for The Clockwork Hand to stop being entirely egomaniacal and talk about someone else for a change. So for this momentous occasion we have chosen to show something a little bit special.

Out of the box is a project by the multi-disciplinary design studio Vitamins. It is a rather beautiful solution to the problem of familiarising yourself with your brand new mobile phone, using cutaways to place the phone into the heart of the accompanying manual.

Vitamins have created a beautiful object. Taking the instructional booklet from something resigned to the bottom of a drawer to deserving pride of place on any bookshelf.
You can see more about this great project or check out even more inspiring designs from Vitamins here.

Until next time,

The Hand

What's sticky with cogs on?

A very quick update to show you our shiny new stickers. Not sure what they'll be used for yet but had to have them. I'm sure we'll think of a couple of uses.

'Till next time

The Business Cards have risen.

OK, so the tentacles have finally given in and provided us with glorious business cards!

So we took them with many thanks from the kraken and polished them up a bit and you can see the clean version below and hopefully love them. We will be distributing these here, there and everywhere and hopefully all you readers will have one, or even a pile in your pockets to promote us.

So the first edition of our business cards is here and with luck will soon be in a town near you!

Stuart H, over and out!

Here There Be Monsters

Hello Folks,

In the coming weeks you should begin to see some lovely posters adorning the walls of your local rehearsal rooms (assuming you live in Glasgow). These will be promoting The Clockwork Hand's design services aimed at bands and musicians. The sketch above is a little preview of the idea behind the poster and hopefully you'll be admiring the finished product before too long.

We will be offering the design of logos, album art, posters, t-shirts and most other things you can think of. If you require any of our services or you would like to make an enquiry please e-mail us and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

The Big Bang

It's happened, It's started.. We are live!

Hello and welcome to the blog and talking ground for the new design studio 'The Clockwork Hand'. Fresh out our packaging, we are looking for new clients for an array of projects and work. The blog will be our primary web output until we have our website tamed and saddled so listen here for news, information and strange entries from anonymous sources.

The Clockwork Hand is currently comprised of three young designers of various talents and hair length. We have Stuart (number 1) Fraser, Matthew Storrie and Stuart (number 2) Hatt, each with their own skill set, ideas and styles. The Hand is working on it's debut portfolio pieces and work and process will be posted where appropriate in the coming months.

We plan to blog as 'The Hand' frequently upon our projects, interests and goings on around what we're doing, as well as blogging individually from time to time, with more specific topics (no matter how irrelevant)

For now, signing out and going back to the basement!

The Clockwork Hand.
